Medical Assistant with Externship

The purpose of the Medical Assistant Program is to prepare students for employment in a variety of clinical positions in the health care field. Graduates are prepared to work in various health care settings including: medical offices, nursing homes, hospitals and rehabilitation centers. Employment opportunities exist as medical assistants, EKG technicians, and phlebotomists.

Medical Assistant graduates are able to:

• Communicate effectively in oral and written forms.
• Understand Medical Laws and Ethics.
• Understand Health Information Management.
• Understand Anatomy and Physiology.
• Understand various Aseptic Techniques.
• Perform EKGs.
• Interview patients, vital signs, patient charting and proper documentation.
• Prepare the medical facilities for office examinations.
• Manage medical emergencies.
• Teach crutch walking.
• Patient education.
