Medical Office Management Technology (A.S.)

The Medical Office Management Technology (MOT) Program offers two tracks. All students take the same courses in the first semester. At the start of the second semester, students get to specialize in either Medical Office Management (Track A) or Billing and Coding (Track B). Both tracks prepare graduates for administrative positions in physicians’ offices, health maintenance organizations, insurance companies. and other health care industries. Entry-level job titles for both tracks include medical biller and accounts receivable clerk. Duties may include verifying insurance benefits, preparing insurance claims, billing, and collections.

The duties of the entry-level positions enable graduates to gain the experience to become a medical office manager, billing supervisor, or coding supervisor.

In addition, Track A graduates may have the following job titles: registration clerk, scheduler, receptionist, and admissions clerk. Duties may include registering patients, scheduling appointments, and preparing medical records. Track B graduates may have the following job titles: medical coder, and billing and coding specialist. Duties may include CPT and ICD-9 CM coding, patient, and third party billing.
