Choosing the right path

Every day people struggle with what they are going to do with certain situations. For me, I still have some thinking to do about where I am going to transfer after I leave P.I.T. At first I thought I had it all figured out, but now I have to take a step back and really think things through.

I know that  I want to continue my education for fashion journalism, but what school I’m going to pick is a whole other story. At first I had my heart set on New York City at the Fashion Institute of Technology or Parsons The New School of Design. I still yearn for the chance to go there, but I also feel as if I need to think practically. First, since I would be considered an “out of state” student the tuition is 2 times the “in state” student amount and money has not been a real great friend of mine. Second, it’s scary, to leave home and be on my own for 2-4 years! Yes, I know NYC is only about 2 hours away and there are holidays, but I’m a home body. I love to see my family and boyfriend everyday, so giving that up will be extremely difficult. Third, what if I get too stressed and can’t grasp the concept of my education out there? I mean, of course I’ll do my best, but sometimes that might not be good enough. Also, the fashion industry is a dog-eat-dog world, so that is intimidating as well. There are a lot of factors that go into making a decision like this, sometimes it can become overwhelming.

One thing I know for sure is that I absolutely, entirely want to become a writer, I mean hey, It’s the job I have now! I do have a year and a half to figure it all out. I am going to apply to the schools in NYC just to see if I can get in, and apply to Philly U and Temple here in Philadelphia as well, for a back-up plan. As I journey through these years, I know I have to keep my grades up and keep striving for my goal, even if I don’t know exactly where to start at!
