Web Design Technology / E-Business Track (A.A.S.)

The E-Business track in the Web Design Technology program prepares graduates to qualify for the variety of positions in the field of website development for Internet business. E-Commerce as it is commonly referred to, is the advertising, selling and buying of products and services through the Internet. The E-Business track will provide students with the technical skills in planning, designing, developing, publishing and managing websites for on-line business.

This program combines the development of business skills and computer skills to participate in the world of electronic commerce. This approach teaches students how to attract people to the website, what to do with the customers once they are on the website, how to provide services through the Internet, and how to understand the major business disciplines and marketing schemes.

The E-business track combines traditional liberal and business courses with hands-on computer skills. The course covers technical and conceptual understandings for successful employment. Those skills and concepts include website development skills, E-commerce concepts, Information Technology skills and concepts, Business concepts, and personal skills.

Web Design Technology/E-Business Track graduates are able to:

• Perform basic functional operations on the World Wide Web, including browsing and searching, and FTP (file transfer protocol).
• Understand the role of the Internet, Intranet, and Internet tools in business and how these technologies are applied to improve efficiency and profits.
• Use computer software and applications to enhance business operations.
• Identify and incorporate the effective elements and principles of design into E-Business.
• Discuss electronic business concepts and practices.
• Identify solutions to real-world design problems and develop a marketing plan for a small company engaged in electronic business.
• Understand how to secure transactions by using payment gateway, inventory control, shipping and order information, and site performance testing and evaluation.
• Understand and facilitate relationships among marketing, promotion, customer service, and user interaction.
