General Studies is an interdisciplinary degree that enables students to
explore courses and programs without the obligation to fulfill the
requirements of a major in a specific academic discipline. The
flexibility of the degree provides students with a rich educational
experience across a broad range of academic disciplines. The program
allows students to design their program of study based upon their
interests and career plans.
Simply put, experiential learning is learning through direct experience,
similar to the skills you have acquired with employers or the military.
We feel it’s the best way to learn and we designed our program around
it. So when you attend classes at P.I.T., get ready for more than
textbooks. Our instructors use a variety of teaching tools such as:
interaction with local employers. You just don’t learn theory; you
learn how theory is applied to the actual workplace.
- Hands-on learning using a variety of learning techniques regardless of students’ backgrounds.
- Integrating your past skills and training with new educational experiences.
Build upon your work and military experience and don’t lose all that you have accomplished!!
Graduates in General Studies are employed in a variety of fields. The
earning of the General Studies degree signifies to employers that you
are a highly capable well-rounded individual who can successfully
accomplish complex tasks and communicate extremely well with others.
employers seek individuals with specific skill sets instead of a degree
in a particular field. The ability to work effectively in a team as
well as independently is important to employers. Further, employers seek
individuals with strong oral and written communications skills,
mathematics, critical thinking and computer skills.
P.I.T. launches you into a world of opportunity! You can transfer your
associate degree credits to a four-year college or university to pursue
your bachelor degree. You can start working in a field of your choice
right after graduation and pursue your bachelor degree part time. P.I.T.
prepares you for the next step that is right for YOU!
