MBC208 - ICD-10 Coding and Practicum
This hands–on course introduces students to the International Classification of Disease (10th revision). This system provides codes to classify diseases, symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, and external causes of injury or disease. Students will learn the history, structure and organization of ICD-10 and how it differs from ICD-9. Students will acquire the skills and knowledge required to review thoroughly medical documentation in order to assign the correct ICD-10 codes. In addition, students will learn the diagnostic–related groups, commonly referred to as DRGs, ensuring the assignment of proper codes in order to receive payment from third–party payers. Students will spend a considerable amount of class time practicing coding.
