This course explores the medical coding and classification systems including ICD-10-CM/PCS. Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to identify, comprehend and use medical codes applicable to most health care organizations including Medicare and governmental agencies. This “hands-on” course introduces students to the International Classification of Diseases, 10th Revision, and Clinical Modification. This system provides codes to classify diseases, symptoms, abnormal findings, complaints, and external causes of injury or disease. Students will acquire the skills and knowledge required to thoroughly review medical documentation in order to assign the correct ICD-10-CM diagnostic codes. In addition, students will gain an understanding of important medical terms and the classification of diseases.
